These are challenging times for us, not only us as individuals, but as a human race. We are seeing so much change swirling on around us...with the Covid-19 virus taking us out of our normal routines, and placing us in isolation from each other. All of my normal routines are disrupted, and on a personal note, we had to say a sudden good-bye to our dear dog, Smoke. It was, and still is, an incredible shock to us. My constant teacher, friend and companion for all of my meditations and healing work, he will be missed greatly.
I know many of us are reeling with the energy of all of this outward change, and questioning how we get through this? And there is only ONE answer to this question...TOGETHER!
I have been teaching for sometime that, as the Buddha says, we need to be a light for ourselves first, so that then we can light up the world around us. And this is more true than ever now. Do you feel as if you are up against a wall, running your old patterns, having to actually SEE yourself, your thoughts and put them under the light of the microscope? Good!! Me too.
This is a time when we may come up against our old resistances...to sit in stillness, to get comfortable with slowing down, to let go of inundating ourselves with noise and stimulation...to learn to just BE HERE NOW.
When we lost international spiritual teacher Ram Dass this year, I could not help but feel that he was ready to help us on a larger journey ahead...smiling and nodding his head from the other side of the veil..."Just be here now" he would say, "That's all you have to do"
Learning to invite calm in the midst of the chaos takes practice...and takes dedication. When I think about it...a couple of months ago I was feeling overwhelmed with requests to do more drum-making workshops and I couldn't keep up with the time and energy it took to make all the drum frames. At the same time, I had wanted an opportunity to work on recording meditations and get some online classes happening...well, here I am with all the time I need!
Remember that energy is continuous, so as we calm the chaos and change the messaging we generate inside...so we will have an impact on the world outside of us. Caroline Myss, medical intuitive, author and spiritual teacher, calls this the 'InnerNet'...and perhaps it's time we all awaken to recognize that what happens in one of us, affects us all.
Take it slow during these difficult times...meditate, read, be creative, connect with others, and dream of a world we we are all healed.
Sending Love,
Sarah
